Obituary of Sharon M. Smith
Sharon M. Smith, 74, of 1733 S. Main St. Ext., passed away Sunday morning (October 6, 2013) and is at peace in heaven after a long battle with a rare neurological disease.
She was born August 9, 1939 in Niagara Falls, a daughter of the late James H. and Edith Allinson Mitchell. Sharon attended Niagara Falls schools, Morgantown, NC High School, Appalachian State University, and graduated as a dental hygienist from Erie County Technical School.
An area resident since 1962, Sharon had been employed by the Jamestown schools as a dental hygiene instructor prior to raising her family. She later worked for Dr. Charles Sinatra and retired as a pharmacy technician from WCA Hospital.
Sharon was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church where she had taught Sunday school. She had been a Cub Scout Den Mother, was a Red Hatter, and also a life member of Beta Sigma Phi. She always looked forward to camping and boating at the Vikings Lake Park.
Sharon is survived by her husband, Bryan H. Smith, whom she married June 29, 1963 in Niagara Falls; three sons: Mark Bryan Smith (Marne) of Doha, Qatar, James Scott Smith (Michelle) of Leonardtown, MD, and Paul Andrew Smith (Margaret) of Charlotte, NC; seven grandchildren: Cameron "CJ" and Nicole Smith, Jake, Luke and Aidan Smith, and Kathryn and Mason Smith; and a sister, Candace Banas of Niagara Falls.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Noryne Aughenbaugh.
A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Saturday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Gerald A Haglund will officiate.
The family will receive friends for two hours prior to the service, from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to a charity of choice.
