Obituary of Nina Anne Depas

Nina Anne Depas, 77, of 264 East Fairmount Ave Lakewood, NY passed away at 8:10 p.m. Sunday, October 6, 2013, in W.C.A. Hospital. A lifelong area resident, she was born October 26, 1935 in Jamestown, NY a daughter of the late Edwin and Katherine Erickson Nelson. Nina was a 1953 graduate of Southwestern Central School and before her retirement was employed as a type setter in the print shop, working for Chautauqua County in Mayville, NY for over 20 years. In earlier years she had worked in the advertising department for the Marlin Rockwell Corporation. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Jamestown, a former member of the Lakewood Rod and Gun Club Auxiliary, a former member of the Lakewood Fire Department Auxiliary and was active in 4-H activities in earlier years. She was also a staunch Democrat and an avid New York Yankee fan. She watched many baseball games on TV as well as many politically based programs. Surviving are a daughter Diane Depas of Jamestown, a son Terry Depas of Jamestown, three brothers Edwin Nelson of Ashville, NY, Arkie Nelson of Lakewood, NY, Robert Nelson of Russell, PA, and two sisters Dorothy Depas of Lakewood, NY Kitty Parker of Dewittville, NY. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Simon S. Depas whom she married July 4, 1954 and who died March 12, 2013, a son Jeffrey A. Depas who died May 10, 2012, a sister Edna Farnsworth and a brother Richard Nelson. The funeral will be held at 5:00 p.m. Friday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Michael Childs, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Jamestown will officiate. Inurnment will be in the Bentley Cemetery, Lakewood, NY. Friends will be received from 3-5 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Lakewood Fire Department, Packard Way, Lakewood, NY 14750. .
