Obituary of Ruby A. Cheney
Ruby A. Cheney, 94, of 366 Kiantone Rd. Jamestown, NY, passed away at 11:45 a.m. Tuesday, October 15, 2013, in her home on the family farm.
A lifelong area resident she was born September 25, 1919 in Jamestown, NY a daughter of the late Oscar and Mary Swanson Anderson.
She was a 1937 graduate of Jamestown High School.
Ruby was a lifelong member of the First Covenant Church where she served on the Deacon Board, sang in the choir, taught Sunday school and served on many boards and committee's over the years. She was also a member of the Kiantone Congregational Church Ladies Aide, a member of several women's circles of First Covenant Church, the C.G. Club, the neighborhood birthday club and the Mozart Club.
Ruby and Henry were blessed to have been able to travel together throughout the world including places like Alaska, Okinawa, Japan, Hong Kong, Hawaii, Great Britain, Sweden and Germany. They also cruised the mediterranean through the Panama Canal and rode the Queen Elizabeth 2 to Britain. They also enjoyed several cross country train rides through Canada and the United States.
Surviving are her husband Henry M. Cheney whom she married June 28, 1941, five children; Kathleen (John) Pearson of Aiken, SC, Cynthia (Vic) Erickson of Wheaton, IL, Barbara (Carl) Engstrom of Marshfield, MA, Morris (Judy) Cheney, Steven (Karen Rowe) Cheney both of Kiantone, ten grandchildren; Christopher Pearson of Muncie, IN, Amy (Jay) Nichols of Woodridge, IL, Sarah (J.C.) Andre of Los Angeles, CA, Amanda (Joshua) Lemay, Abigail Engstrom both of Boston, MA, Seth (Elizabeth) Cheney of New Freedom, PA, Cynthia (Will) Ueland, Rebecca (Eric) Davis both of Rochester, NY, Rachel (Cody) Peace of Jamestown, NY, Adam Cheney of Pittsburgh, PA, nine great grandchildren and a sister Martha Anderson of Frewsburg, NY.
Ruby was the most loving and generous wife, mother and grandmother. She devoted her entire life to her family, and her unwavering faith will live on in the hearts of those she has touched.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by two brothers Evald and Harlod Anderson and six sisters Betty Lindbloom, Elsa Gruelle, Mildred Dunn, Genevieve Anderson, Mabel Larson and Lois Beebe.
A memorial service in celebration of Ruby's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 2, 2013, in First Covenant Church. The Rev. Adam Rohler, pastor will officiate. Inurnment will be in the Kiantone Cemetery.
The family will receive friends following the service in fellowship hall of the church.
