Bob was a good man and an excellent principal at Chautauqua Lake Central he did what was best for his students and his staff even when it would have been easier to do nothing. Even when most would have done nothing. He handled the angry senior boy with firmness and compassion while he let his secretary discuss questionable dress with senior girl.
Bob you were intelligent, you cared and you did well. We didn't always agree and you weren't always right but you left us and the world better for you your having been here.
Who could ask for more.

A stand up man and leader of leaders. Twenty some years ago walked out of Panama's front parking lot after practice as Bob was also leaving? He had just been offered his first principal job. Wasn't sure it was right for him. He became visibly upset and torn as we talked. This young teacher (at the time lol) talked with the would be superintendents of superintendents for an hour candidly. He eventually turned that job down. I think it turned out ok anyway. Hugged each other as we left. A humbling moment in my life and his I'll never forget. An honor to have taught the kids and know Cindy. God bless.

So saddened to learn that we have all been deprived of this terrific young man. What made him unusual was that he was so accomplished in whatever he undertook to do, whether it was in the classroom as a teacher of in the office as an administrator, or making wood carvings of birds, etc., or building a house, or working backstage at the opera house in Chautauqua Institution. He did it all well, and perhaps best of all, he was well liked by all with whom he came into contact. He will be well remembered by many. My deepest condolences go out to the family and to all those who knew and loved him.

We remember Bob as a dedicated and talented fellow educator. However, our most vivid recollection involves a dark and stormy Friday night following a performance and opening night party of the Chautauqua Opera Company. By the time we left the party, we found all of our usual routes back to Jamestown blocked by torrents of water. Bob took the lead. Keeping his tail lights in view at all times, we followed him along many back roads of Chautauqua County through the driving rain. Amazingly, he found a way, sticking to the high ground to get us all safely home! He's probably still leading the way. Our deepest sympathy to Cindy, Natalie, Laurie, Tony, and those 3 beautiful grandchildren.

My memories of Bob revolve around the sports of football and basketball. Although two years older and a helluva lot bigger, stronger and faster, Bob always treated me with respect and kindness - whether on the football field, basketball court or in the hallways of school. We spent many hours playing b-ball with the Ashville crowd on the outdoor courts at Lakewood Beach, not to mention a week together at basketball camp in the Poconos under the tuteledge of he late Rocky Morgan. It is so appropriate that Bob became a successful educator, model citizen, and loving husband and father. He just had the "it" factor that is common to so many successful people. My thoughts and prayers go out to his friends and family.

Mr. Guiffreda was my principal at CLCS and although I only knew him those three years, he left a lasting impression on my life. He was a great leader and an inspiring educator. He taught lessons even as a principal. I visited his office many times pushing for changes and asking for guidance and he always welcomed me with a warm smile and said, "Well what is it now..." He taught me to stand up for what I felt was fair and it was a great lesson. I am so sorry for his family and to the world of education. They have lost a great hero!
