Obituary of Thomas M. Korcyl
Thomas M. Korcyl, Sr., 54, of Linden Ave. in Ashville, went to be with the Lord on Friday, November 1, 2013 following a courageous battle with cancer. He was known as "Uncle Tom" by many friends and family members.
Tom was born April 11, 1959 in Jamestown, a son of Sophie Evanczik Korcyl and the late Stanley J. Korcyl, and graduated from Maple Grove Central School in 1977.
He had been employed by Quality Markets for over 20 years as a truck driver and warehouseman before forming his own business, 'TK Groundskeeping' in Bemus Point. He also worked briefly for Regal Services of Jackson Avenue in Jamestown prior to his illness.
A member of the Ellery Snocruisers, Tom took great pleasure in snowmobiling and snocross racing. He was also an active member of Bemus Point United Methodist Church where he served on the Board of Trustees.
Tom enjoyed his family and friends and was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone who asked.
He is survived by his wife of six years, Kathy Stahl Korcyl; two children, Thomas M. Korcyl, Jr. of Bemus Point and Amber L. Korcyl of Jamestown; two step-children, Stefanie L. (Brett) Bailey of Jamestown and Christopher H. (Andriel) Moore of Falconer; his mother, Sophie of Bemus Point; two brothers, Edward (Becky) Korcyl and Gregory (Beth) Korcyl, both of Bemus Point; and four sisters: Lorraine (Angelo) Alaimo of Dryden, NY and Davenport, FL, Suzanne (John) Rasmussen of Jamestown, and Marcia (Kim) Rambacher and Virginia (Larry) Hallberg, both of Bemus Point; five step-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his father, Stanley, who died January 3, 1998, he was preceded in death by a sister, Janice K. Rogerson who died December 23, 2010.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 6th in the Bemus Point United Methodist Church. The Rev. Doug Kibbe and the Rev. Bill Allen will officiate.
Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the Lind Funeral Home.
The family suggests memorials be made to Hospice of Chautauqua County, 20 W. Fairmount Ave., Lakewood, NY 14750.
