Obituary of Gilbert L. McCollough

Gilbert "Bud" McCollough, 78, of 70 W. Fairmount Ave., died Tuesday, November 5, 2013 in Lakewood. He was born on August 5, 1935 in Jamestown, the son of Gilbert L. McCollough Sr. and Dorothy I. Collins McCollough. Bud graduated from Youngsville High School in 1954, and served in the U.S. Navy as a radioman on the U.S.S. Edisto from 1955-1959. He met Susan Chase, the love of his life, on October 8, 1959 at Miller's Grove in Fentonville and they married on January 2, 1960. He worked locally for the Jamestown Post Office, Crawford Furniture and Marlin Rockwell Corp. in earlier years and after retirement at Wegman's and CARTS. Besides his parents, Bud was preceded in death by Susie, who died May 23, 2010. Bud will be remembered for his quick wit and fantastic sense of humor. He had a sense of fun and enthusiasm for life, and loved spending time with his family. He spent many years gardening, raising animals and hunting, and for the past few years, he enjoyed frequent visits to Wegman's coffee shop. He loved the woods and water. Bud had many friends and loved ones and will be dearly missed. He is survived by daughter Laura (Michael) Moss of Celoron, sons Richard McCollough of North Bend, Washington, Daniel McCollough of Morgantown, West Virginia, and Gilbert McCollough III of Rocky Mount, North Carolina; eight grandchildren, Kathryn (James Omps) Moss, Jesse Moss, and Kyle, Corrine, Nathan, Walter, Haylie, and Patrick McCollough, and brothers Joseph (Carole) McCollough of Tucson, Arizona and James (Lynda) McCollough of Warren, Pennsylvania and several cousins, nieces and nephews. A service of remembrance will be held on Saturday, November 9, 2013 at 2:00PM in the Lind Funeral Home. James McCollough, Bud's nephew, will officiate. Friends will be received for one hour prior to the service in the funeral home Saturday. In honor of Bud's lifelong love of reading, memorials may be made to the James Prendergast Library of Jamestown or to a charity of choice. Hey hey, Dad.
