Obituary of Ralph Q. Hollis
Ralph Quentin Hollis, 83, of 106 West Summit, Lakewood, passed away Friday November 15, 2013 in his home surrounded by his loving family due to a sudden illness.
He was born November 26, 1929 in Titusville, PA the son of the late Ralph C. and Leigh Cartland Hollis.
Ralph graduated from the Randolph-Macon Military Academy of Front Royal, VA in 1947. Prior to his retirement in 1985, he was employed by Blackman and Ebsary Food Brokers and Pezrow Food Brokers in Buffalo for 35 years.
He was a member of the Lakewood Rod and Gun Club, and a former member of the Chautauqua Golf Course. For over 30 years, Ralph and his wife Barbara have spent the winter months in the Surfside Beach, SC area where they were active in the Surfside Methodist Church. During the summer, they attended the Lakewood Methodist Church and enjoyed the church services at the Chautauqua Amphitheater. Ralph had many hobbies, including golf, playing bridge, music and reading. He enjoyed sitting at his home and watching the activity on Chautauqua Lake. His family was most important to him.
Surviving are his wife, Barbara Campbell Hollis whom he married January 5, 1952; four children, Diane Hill of St. Petersburg, FL; Debbie (Richard) Sanders of Lakewood; Carter (Diane) Hollis of Spartanburg, SC; Kim (Cathy) Hollis of Gainesville, GA; eight grandchildren, Susan (Steve) Umstead of Lockport; Julie (Adam) Galaska of West Henrietta; Kate (Kevin) Daly, Matt (Kelly) Hill both of Elbridge; Jason (Kate) Hollis of Dublin, Ireland; Ryan (Megan) Hollis of Salt Lake City, UT; Sarah (Marcus) Stowe of Flowery Branch, GA; Hilary Hollis of Gainesville, GA; eleven great grandchildren, Madison and Jack Daly, Ireland and Riley Hill all of Elbridge; Hunter and Noah Umstead of Lockport; Jade Galaska of West Henrietta; Ethan Hollis of Dublin, Ireland; Matthew, Joshua, and Jackson Stowe of Flowery Branch, GA; a brother James (JoAnn) Hollis of Lexington, SC; two cousins, Mary (Jack) McCall of Bemus Point; Janet Harvey of Pittsburgh; and a sister in law, Nancy MacDonell of Bolivar, NY.
He was preceded in death by his father on May 20, 1982; his mother on April 22, 1962; a granddaughter Amy Lynn Sanders on December 24, 1975; and a brother Richard Hollis on January 31, 1981.
A Memorial Service will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Timothy Phelps, Hospice Chaplain will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.
