Obituary of Mary E. Morris

Mary Emma Morris, 90, formerly of Beech Street in Boniwood, passed away peacefully Friday December 6, 2013 in Memory Garden surrounded by her family. A Jamestown resident since 1933, she was born April 27, 1923 in Gorham, NY the daughter of the late Josef and Emma Bauer Voit. Mary was a 1941 graduate of Jamestown High School and worked at Anderson Cleaners from 1965 until her retirement in 1985. She was a member of Kidder Memorial United Methodist Church joining in 1946; and a member of the Kiantone Senior Citizens. She loved spending time with children, especially her great grandchildren. Mary enjoyed traveling with her husband and the senior citizens group, winters in Florida walking the beach, bird watching, knitting, and her women's group that called themselves the M & M Club. She also enjoyed watching sports, following golf, the Buffalo Bills, New York Yankees, NASCAR, and going to Stateline Speedway to cheer on her son as he raced. Of German heritage, Mary loved carrying on the family traditions of cooking and canning. She also loved hosting spaghetti dinners for her family. Surviving are two sons, Randall Morris and Ralph (Brenda) Morris; a daughter Linda Morris all of Jamestown; three grandchildren, April (Jason) Steenburn of Jamestown; Shane Morris of San Diego, CA; Destiny Samlock of Findley Lake; two great grandchildren, Bailey Alan Steenburn and Ava Lauren Steenburn, both of Jamestown; and a brother, George (Audrey) Voit of Melbourne, FL. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Arthur Bailey Morris whom she married January 19, 1946 and who died February 18, 2006; an infant daughter; and five brothers, Conrad, Josef, Fred, Robert, and William Voit. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Rick LaDue, pastor of Kidder Memorial United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday and for one hour prior to the service Tuesday in the funeral home.
