Obituary of Elizabeth A. Butler

Elizabeth A. "Betty" Butler, 94, of Fairport, NY, formerly of Jamestown, died Sunday December 29, 2013, in Strong Memorial Hospital, Rochester, NY She was born March 6, 1919, in Jamestown, a daughter of William and Esther Cheney Mee. Following graduation from Falconer High School she worked for Anderson Restaurant and the Erie Railroad until starting her family. She was a former member of St. Timothy Lutheran Church, Bemus Point, NY. In 1995 she was awarded Chautauqua County Caregiver of the Year in recognition of many years of devoted attention she provided to her husband during his prolonged illness with Alzheimer's. Betty herself was a 30 year cancer survivor. Surviving are two sons G. Steven Butler of Fairport and David (Vicky) Butler of Mooresville, NC and three grandchildren Kristin (Robby) Oden, Erik (Shannon) Butler and Ashley Butler. She was preceded in death by her husband George T. Butler, whom she married June 29, 1949 and who died February 5, 1995; two brothers Lawrence and Richard Mee and three sisters Genevieve and Marian Mee and Mabel Rossing. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the Lind Funeral Home. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery. Friends will be received from 4-7 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.
