My Nonna (grandmother), Angela Foti, passed away today. She was an amazing person and lived a fulfilling life.
She was extremely influential in my life, and undoubtedly played a major role in my upbringing. She worked hard to provide for her family and put their needs and best interest before her own. I am thankful to have stayed with her for many years, creating unforgettable memories that are forever in my heart. She taught me so many things during those years that it would be impossible to list them all. As a child, we would call her, "Nonna Gadget" because she seemed to have a tool or odd gadget for everything. She taught all of us kids how to play various board games and card games; I have fond childhood memories of playing Trump, Monopoly, and Scrabble with her... She would make up words and pencil them into a dictionary. She also played names of biblical characters, saying it was acceptable because they weren't people, they were saints and angels... Her favorite game was 500, in which she was notorious for her skewed mathematics, which usually put her far ahead of the other players. She taught me as much about hard work, respect, and dedication as she did cooking and painting.
She was extremely supportive of anything I was passionate about, and encouraged me to be the best I could possibly be. She loved that I was involved in martial arts and would always ask how that was going, when my next tournament would be, and would remark, "you don't look like you got hit too many times, that must mean you're winning!" or "I sure hope the other guy looks worse than you, you said you won!". I'll miss her quick remarks. She loved that I play guitar and encouraged me to play more. When I lived with her, she would yell upstairs to me to TURN IT UP! so she could hear better. She knew how much I loved Randy Rhoads, Zakk Wylde, Dime, and Hendrix that she would read my guitar magazines and books to be able to talk with me about them... She convinced me to study classical guitar by saying that Randy Rhoads did it, and he was the best...I'll miss playing for her.
She lived through many historic times and had first hand experiences that she loved to share. She would often tell us stories of Detroit during the war, manufacturing war materials, golfing with a man named Clarence, and dancing with a deaf man. As I got older, before I left New York, I would visit Nonna with an acoustic guitar and play her every classical guitar song I knew, while she told me stories of her youth. No matter how bad of a day I was having, she made everything better. When asked what she thought of my beard, she replied quickly and simply, "Jesus had a beard."
To the woman who never failed to make me smile. Who always supported encouraged me and my dreams. Who I smuggled Hardee's breakfast and a Wawa strawberry sundae in the hospital because the food sucked. To the woman whose love for me was unconditional, who was always there for us, who always made sure I wasn't hungry, who was always there to talk and to listen, who taught me so many things, who was an amazing friend, who I selfishly wish was still here with us. Thank you.
I miss you already.
I love you, Nonna, I love you.

I've known "Nonna" for about 16 years, as long as I've been friends with her granddaughter. She was a sweet, caring, strong, and loving woman who stood firm in her faith. My heart aches for the loss that the family is dealing with, but at the same time knowing that she's no longer in pain or struggling is of some comfort.
My prayers go out the family <3

Nonna always made the best milkshakes and would make sure my friends and I always had a place to eat, a game to play, and a person to talk to. She is in a better place now and is the best angel any of us could ask for.

She always made me and my kids feel welcome for meals or just for visits. We had many talks of her work as a self proclaimed "Rosie the Riveter". She was a great women and a devote Christian. She will be missed and remembered fondly as a grandmother who always tried to feed me more and more food. Love you Nonna.

We were so blessed to have her for our mother. She taught us to be strong and help those that we could along life's path. We all knew how much she loved us and cared for our well being and happiness. Life will truly not be the same without her, but we were lucky to have had her for as long as we did. God speed Mom. Thank you for everything. We will love you forever.

I will always remember how welcoming Angela was when visiting her home, from my childhood on.
Her mind was razor sharp, with a quick with- always.
Too choked up to write anymore, other than she will be missed.
