I worked closely with Lew during the time he was assigned to the Sheriff's Dept. Juvenile Division. He was dedicated to the CCSD and the people of Chautauqua County. When working with me on child abuse cases, he demonstrated kindness and compassion to victims while show zeal in hold offenders accountable for their actions. Lew was known for his ability to work cooperatively with other agencies and never hesitated to do whatever was necessary to get the job done. I offer my support to those who loved him and all his friends and families.

Uncle Lew, I am not going to say goodbye, but rather see you on the other side one day. There aren't any words I could use to adequately describe how much you meant to me growing up and throughout my life. There are too many memories to count, so suffice to say that you'll always hold a very special place in my heart. You were such a special man and will be missed by so many. I love you Uncle Lew & miss you so much already. Give Grandma and Gabrielle a hug from me.

Sgt. Lew Snyder was my first supervisor at the Sheriff's Office when I started on days in 2005. There was no better man to learn from. I must have called him a couple times every day those first few months, and he'd always answer, "yes, Josh?" Never annoyed, always happy to help me. He taught me how to "serve and protect" in the true sense of the words, and smoothed out many of my rough edges. After he retired when I would run into him at the courthouse, I never stopped calling him Sgt, out of deep respect. He'd say he wasn't a Sgt anymore, and tease that after supervising me he had to retire, that I caused too many gray hairs. His laugh was infectious. He'd always ask about my family and how things were going. A great man all around. I pray that God brings peace to the Snyder family during this difficult time.

Lewis and I were grade school friends. We were in the same grades at SS Peter & Paul school from 1st thru 9th and we both graduated from Jameshown High School in 1969. We lived in the same neighborhood, attended the same church activities, played neighborhood baseball, and we worked together one summer at Stew Snyder's Sign Company. I was his best man at his marriage to Jeanie (Melody Jean). Lewis was always an "A" student. He was very smart and was good with advice even when we were kids. After High School we traveled different roads and pursued different careers. I will always have fond memories of Lewis, his brothers, sister, parents and friends. We will meet again in the next life.

Good-bye, Lew. We feel a thousand times richer because you crossed the paths of our lives. You were always kind; always a gentleman; never spoke badly of anyone; you treated everyone with great respect; you were a man of great integrity. You were a professional. You were a great family man; a wonderful, generous, loving son, husband, father, brother, uncle and would have been the ideal grandfather and great grandfather. You always had an unforgettable presence and a caring, loving, generous heart. You embodied all that one could wish for in everyone on earth: wisdom, warmth, fairness, honesty, generosity, and a great sense of humor. You were soft spoken, but firm; gentle, yet tough minded.
You set an example for us as human beings. You truly were one of the good guys. We judges always enjoyed being greeted by you. Your genuine smile and warm greeting helped lift our spirits as walked into chambers or the courtroom to face the challenges of the day. We will miss you. Life will not be the same for all of us who knew you.

Uncle Lew,
I wish I could have been home to say goodbye and not stuck here at school. I'm sorry I cannot attend your calling hours or your service but know that you are in my thoughts and prayers throughout this sad time. I'm having a hard time thinking of the right words to say, but if I could thank you for one of many things it would be for spreading your love of baseball with my father. I grew up attending baseball games with him and watching them on television every summer night all because you did the same thing with him when he was young. You shared your passion with him, and he then passed it onto me. I am very grateful for that. You will be missed very much and remembered for the wonderful man that you were. Love always!

April, Dee, Matt, Heather and family,
I'm so sorry for your loss. Lewis was a great man and growing up with April I always remember him being the strong, supportive, constant, loving father by her side. Lew was always so soft spoken...until a few times April and I couldn't stop laughing at bedtime and Lew would yell up the stairs for us to be quiet cause we were going to wake Heather. April would say "uh-oh...Lew's getting loud...this is serious"... To which we would laugh even more.

Dear Denise, Heather, April & Matt, and families,
Lew will be missed on this earth by anyone who knew him. All of us at Bethlehem have lost an honorable, humorous, and compassionate brother in Christ. I was lucky to serve with Lew and Denise on council and see our Heather make them so happy and proud as she grew up. Matt, April, and Heather, I pray the knowledge that he is in God's care and the memories of your dad's love helps ease some of the pain and sorrow. Denise, know that if I can do anything to help ease the agony of losing your Lew, please call. May Jesus wrap you all in his arms and comfort you.

Dear Uncle Lew, You truly were a man that I looked up to my entire life. Your kind and caring heart was contagious and spread through any room you were in. Lilly and Charlie absolutely adored you, and I know you did of them. I enjoyed you being able to catch some of my games on the mound, and talking baseball with you. Each time I walked through the security entrance in the GOB and you were working, I could see your smiling face from far away as you watched me walk in. No matter what mood I was in, your smile always made me smile and was refreshing to see. We were supposed to do a bunch of hikes and geocache this spring and summer, but that will have to wait until we reunite again. Also, I just want to send out a big thanks as Holly, Lilly, Charlie and I will be enjoying your last gift to us next week when we visit Disney World. That is just one more example of how generous and kind you were. I can't believe you are gone, and I know that I will always have a void in my heart with you not here with us. I do know that your faith in God and love for our Savior Jesus Christ is why you were taken from us...so you could be healed and enjoy eternity in Heaven. I love you dearly, and look forward to being reunited with you when my time comes as well. Love you Uncle Lew!

You were someone I have looked up to for a long time. Your son Matt is like a brother to me. I became a police officer 15 yrs ago and wanted to take qualities from other officers I had respected. From you I learned the best lesson- smile often and don't make the job who you are, it's just what we do. Over the last couple of years you were there for your children when their mother was ill. You and Denise stepped in and helped make their mothers life easier and it was an amazing comfort to them. It was an act of love and kindness that many people could not do. You were one of a kind with that calm demeanor and contagious smile. Rest in peace.

Dad, I really can't put into words how much I will miss you. As far back as I can remember, you have been my idol. I always wanted to grow into exactly the man you were. I know we didn't spend as much time together as either one of us would have liked, but the times we did spend together were always great! We should have had many more, it's just not fair!! I Love You Dad. Until we meet again go tear it up on that field of dreams and know that you will be in my thoughts everyday. Oh, one more thing, tell Mom I said hello and I love her. Love forever, Matthew.

Daddy,
I don't even know where to start. The last few days we've been going through pictures (and you know how many Mom has!) and so many memories have made me smile and laugh. You were always there for me, supporting me and making sure that everyone was taken care of. Going to ball games (where you had to explain everything to me because I'm hopeless when it comes to sports), teaching me how to drive (in a thunderstorm no less!), riding giant roller coasters with me (and tickling me when we went down the huge hills), helping me get ready for interviews (and telling me how proud you were of me), improving my vocabulary with Scrabble (and my planning skills with Risk)...
Just so many memories of how you helped me to become the woman that I am today. I hope that I can become as strong yet soft-hearted and caring as you were. I know you touched so many people in such a positive way and that you continue to support and love me as a Guardian Angel. I'm sure you, Grandma and Grandpa (and even Panda, too!) are having a great time reuniting in Heaven. I will continue to love you and know that you are always watching out for me, while I will look up into the sky and know you are looking back. Enjoy all that summer (alright, perhaps autumn since that was your favorite season), baseball, delicious food and trivia!! I love you!!

I don't even know where to begin. My dad was the best father anyone could ever ask for. If I could create the perfect man, father, friend, spouse it would be him to a tee! He had the kindest heart and was always a joy to be around. He would become you with his smile or laugh. As his daughter I never had a want in my life. He gave me everything I ever needed, wanted, and more! I am the person I am today due to his hard work and dedication. He helped me every step of the way to support me in sports, school, and with my career. Even when he was sick he pushed me to work half way around the world. I sure do hope that I made him as proud of me as I was of him! I will forever have a void in my life that no one will be able to fill. I know you are in heaven watching over me with mom and I will be o.k. where ever I go and whatever I do. Enjoy all of your favorite foods and play all the baseball you can. Until I see you in the clouds.....
