Obituary of Dorothy I. Meier

Dorothy I. Meier, 87, formerly of High Acres, Bemus Point, died Thursday February 6, 2014, in Heritage Village Rehab and Skilled Nursing. A native of Cleveland, OH, she was born February 8, 1926, the daughter of the late Lawrence and Caroline Rusk Lowe. She was a 1943 graduate of East High School, Cleveland. Prior to her retirement she was employed by ReMax Advantage. She was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church and had volunteered at the church thrift store for over 20 years. Surviving are her husband Richard Meier, whom she married July 25, 1975; two sons Lawrence (Angela) Banes of Jamestown and Keith (Lynn) Banes of Corpus Christi, TX; three step children Gregory (Leslie) Meier of Massachusetts, Cathy Bailey of Texas and Jeanne Barlow of Arizona; 18 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by a daughter Cheryl Hovey in 2010. The funeral will be held at 1:00 p.m. Sunday in St. Luke's Episcopal Church. Rev. Liz Simmons will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received from 4-6 p.m. Saturday in the Lind Funeral Home and in the Undercroft of the church following the service Sunday.
