Obituary of James T. Calamungi

James T. Calamungi, 86, of 57 LaSalle Ave Jamestown, passed away peacefully Monday February 17, 2014. He was born October 1, 1927 in Jamestown, the son of the late Joseph and Angela Calimeri Calamungi. Jim was a 1943 graduate of Jamestown High School. He served in the US Army during WWII from 1946 to 1948 and earned his Bachelor's Degree in Biology from Perdue University in 1950. Prior to retirement, he was Manufacturing Supervisor at Truck Lite in Falconer. Previously he worked at Sylvania in Warren, PA and Kaiser Aluminum and Chemical Corp. in Newark, OH. He was a communicant of St. James Catholic Church. Jim was a member of the Knights of Columbus; Ira Lou Spring Post #149 American Legion; South Hills Country Club; and for over 50 years, the YMCA. For many years, he was a loyal volunteer in the Dialysis Unit at WCA Hospital. Surviving are a niece, Marianne Haydock of Webster, NY; a nephew, Thomas Catania of Oxford, OH; his dear long time friend, Betty Falthzik; and his dear friends, Pam Meurer and Debbie and Mike Soderberg. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Ann Catania. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. John L. Kuhlmann will officiate. Friends will be received for one hour prior to the service Thursday in the funeral home. Burial will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
