Obituary of Merle E. Sweet

Merle E. Sweet, 82, of Fairmount Ave. in Jamestown, died Friday, February 21, 2014 at Erie Select Specialty Hospital. He was born October 23, 1931 in Corry, Pa., 1 of 12 children of the late Harold and Minnie May Manges Sweet. Merle had been employed as a mechanic at Proctor's Chevrolet in Findley Lake for 25 years and retired in 1986 as Parts Manager of CMK Auto Parts in Jamestown. Merle enjoyed spending time doing yard work, puzzles and going to yard sales. He always looked forward to spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, the former Betty Peterson; a daughter, Merla Martin of Sherman and two sons, Robert and Glen Sweet, both of Jamestown; a step-daughter, Roxinne Cason of Kansas City, MO and step-son, Jeff Edwards of Greenhurst; four grandchildren, Stephanie Thompson, Joel Speck and Courtney Edwards of Jamestown and Jennifer Cason of Kansas City; four great-grandchildren, Timothy Cole and Allison Bedford of Jamestown and Jason and Jordan Cason of Kansas City; three sisters, Elizabeth Green of Gaffney, SC, Clarabelle Burdick of Clymer and Marionette Bowen of Sherman; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara Burke Sweet who died in 1969; six sisters, Jessie and Leona Sweet, Irma Gibbons, Vera Bromley, Violet Redding and Earla Bromley; two brothers, Donald and Gerald Sweet; and a son-in-law, Gary Martin. No funeral service or visitation will be observed. Burial will be in the Cutting Cemetery, Clymer. The family suggests memorials be made to a charity of choice.
