Obituary of Philip A. Bloomquist

Philip Alan Bloomquist, 81, a 14 1/2 year resident of Heritage Green Rehab & Skilled Nursing Center, died at 6:03 a.m. Tuesday, February 21, 2014. A native of Jamestown, he was born October 16, 1932, a son of the late Russell C. and Helen Link Bloomquist, Sr., and was a graduate of Southwestern Central School. At the age of 13, Philip was diagnosed with a brain tumor and was not expected to live longer than six months. He ended up outliving his entire family and is survived by close friends, Thomas and Katheen Bemus of Bemus Point, Karla Brigiotta of Roswell, GA and Kristina Brigiotta Lazaro of Lunenburg, MA. He made his home with his parents and then with his brother Russell on East Virginia Boulevard, where he loved walking in Allen Park. Though physically disabled, Philip spent his time collecting antiques and was a voracious reader. He was preceded in death by his father, who died in 1969; his mother in 1987; and his brother, Russell C. Bloomquist, Jr. in 1997. The funeral will be held at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Samuel Shreffler, chaplain for Heritage Ministries will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received for 1/2 hour prior to the service Tuesday in the funeral home.
