Obituary of Timothy C. Stowell

Timothy C. Stowell, 68, of Bemus Point, NY, unexpectedly went home to be with his Lord on Friday, February 21. Born August 28, 1945, he was the son of Carl and Viola Marie Shepardson Stowell. He graduated from Bemus Point High School in 1963 and from Houghton College in 1967. He earned two master's degrees, one in American history from SUNY Fredonia, and the other in counseling from St. Bonaventure University. In 1991 he received an Ed. D. in the field of counseling psychology from Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, and he was a licensed psychologist in the state of Arizona. Prior to his retirement in 2002, Tim was employed by the Southwestern Central School District. Initially he was a high school social studies teacher; later he became a high school guidance counselor and then an elementary counselor at Lakewood Elementary School, where he started the elementary counseling program. He was a longtime member of the Bemus Point United Methodist Church, where over the years he had served as lay leader, Administrative Board member, Sunday school teacher, small group leader, and chairman of the Missions Commission and the Evangelism Commission. He also belonged to the American Association of Christian Counselors, and he was a member of the Jordan Club in the Adirondacks. Tim is survived by his wife, Janet Dill Stowell, whom he married on August 10, 1968; two children: Angela (Romain) Dupont of Paris, France, and Ethan Stowell of Virginia Beach, Virginia; and two sisters: Stephanie Kolb of Springboro, Ohio, and Susanna Rumberger of Sioux City, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents. Tim was a loving husband and father, and his family was the joy of his life. He was also a devoted follower of Jesus Christ. He loved traveling with his family, particularly in the western states, and he enjoyed photography as well as collecting stamps and coins. He was also an avid reader and an aficionado of everything pertaining to trains. His in-depth knowledge of history enhanced every discussion of current events, and his willingness to listen and words of wisdom will be greatly missed by his family. The funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday at the Bemus Point United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Bemus Point Cemetery.
