Obituary of Joseph Charles Magnio

Joseph Charles Magnio, 73, of Southwestern Drive, Lakewood, NY, passed away Sunday, March 16, 2014, in W.C.A. Hospital. He was born February 11, 1941 in Jamestown, NY a son of the late James Vincent Magnio and Edith Gigliotti Magnio. A kind, gentleman, he was an extraordinary son, brother, uncle, and friend who touched many lives. He was very proud of his home and was a self-starter who enjoyed working as part of a team. A life-long learner, Joseph received his Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts Degrees from Almeda University. He also received an Associates of Applied Science Degree from ITT Technical Institute and Associates in Arts Degree from Cuyamaca College in El Cajon, California. A decorated veteran, he served in the U.S. Navy for 21 years before retiring from active service to his country in 1988. He was passionate about everything he accomplished, including his service in the U.S. Navy of which he was granted top secret clearance for special duties and assignments. He served in numerous positions within the Navy including maintenance department head responsible for all communications, an electronics material officer responsible for 300 plus personnel, and an oceanographic systems operational instructor involved in research, development and implementation of new oceanographic systems. He traveled to Naval Bases all over the world as an operational instructor, teaching personnel how to use oceanographic systems. Previous to his service in the U.S. Navy, Joseph was employed as a Senior Administration Specialist at IBM in California. After his retirement from the U.S. Navy, he was employed by ITT Technical Institute in San Diego, CA as an instructor for 15 years. Following his retirement from ITT, he was employed on a part time basis at the Seneca Casino until 2008. He was a life member of the local AM VETS Post, an active member of the War Vets Recreation Club in Jamestown, a member of the National Rifle Association of America and a member of the IEEE, the world's largest professional association for the advancement of technology. Joseph is survived by six nieces and nephews, David Allen Parker (Katharine) of Stow, OH, Linda Jo Johnson (Daniel), Kim Marie Hurley (Timothy), Charles George Parker (Kathleen) , James Scott Parker all of Jamestown, James Robert Hendrickson, Jr. (Aimee) of Boiling Springs, SC. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his loving sister Louise Annette Hendrickson. In keeping with Joseph's wishes, there will be no funeral service or public visitation observed.
