To Marlene, Cathy, and Family--How lucky we were to have known and loved Walt! It's easy to forget that ordinary people who do extraordinary things, may not be with us forever. Roode made everyone feel comfortable no matter what the circumstances: a winning team, a losing team, a friend in trouble, a kid who needed guidance; it didn't matter, you were OK with him. There was always that smile that appeared when you saw him, so warm and welcoming. Too many of us take for granted the kind of goodness Walt possessed and was generous to share.
We loved him and his wonderful family for many years, and there will be a void in our lives without him. May God be a great subject for this talented photographer. May his family take joy in the love he gave to so many.

I first met Walt as a Little League catcher playing an All Star game at Hyde Park in Niagara Falls in 1961. He wasn't one of my coaches but was very involved with Jamestown Little League at the time.We went out to dinner and visited the Falls as a team after being no-hit 9-0. In the few short hours we had at the Falls he chased us up and down the elevators, teasing and messing around with us and helped us forget the sting of defeat we had just encountered.I was a winner that day because I had met this very special individual who I knew all through my career in sports and later working with him for many years at the Post Office. A true life long friend who I loved and respected.God Bless you Roode!

Dear Marlene and the whole Roode Family. Our sincere condolences for the passing of a truly great man. Roode was a salt of the earth kind of guy who made others feel good about themselves and made Jamestown a better place. He had that magnetic personality. Our mother, Phyllis, really wanted to pay personal respects, but due to the expected extreme people traffic at Lind Funeral Home she feels it would be too much for her to handle, which in itself is a tribute to Roode. God Bless!

Uncle Roode where do I begin- You have been a grandfather, godfather, uncle, sponser, driver ed instructor{sometimes doing it illegally},school transporter on a daily basis for all 3 kids, photographer(those first day of school pictures were so important to you)plus our 2 family weddings(one of which you traveled across the country with all your equipment to do). I could go on and onand I have said many times that you would have done anything for our kids and grandkids. I truly believe that if the kids had asked you to jump off the 3rd St bridge you would have done it! Just remember we love you and will miss you and rest assured we will watch over Marlene and the girls for you.

I remember the countless hours we used to spend with "Roode" at his home when I was in junior high school and high school, even college. Roode was a great mentor and friend. I remember how proud he was, and rightfully so for all the guidance he gave, when I was commissioned in the Marine Corps. And as my friend, the great pictures he took on my wedding day and gave us as a wedding present. Great mentoring, great friendship and great memories.
Thanks Roode!

T the Roode family..My deepest sympathys to all of u. Roode was a wonderful role model for all of our kids, including mine David Schuler. Dave grew up playing ball with Roode by his side. His senior Red Raiders baseball picture that Roode took..still hangs in my house today. Now when we look at it..it will be a wonderful reminder that "Roode" took that picture. He was truly an inspiration to everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. Rest easy.
