Obituary of Mary P. DeCastro

Mary P. DeCastro, 93, of 252 Baker Street, died Friday May 2, 2014, in Heritage Green Rehab and Skilled Nursing. She was born March 31, 1921, in Elmira, NY, the biological daughter of the late Minnie Vickio, and the adopted daughter of the late Potito and Antonia Poaletta Posticciola. She was a 1939 graduate of Fredonia High School. During WWII she was employed by Bell Aircraft, Buffalo, as a "Rosie the Riveter" on the P39 aircraft. She later worked for Bigelow's Department in the cosmetic department for 26 years. She was a communicant of St. James Catholic Church, member of Westside Women's Club and Lakewood Rod and Gun Club and former member of Chautauqua County Artist Club. She will be remembered as a woman of strong faith who loved art especially the use of Oil and watercolors. She enjoyed dancing with her husband, gardening and spending time with her family. She was especially excited and thrilled, at age 69, to reconnect with her biological family. Surviving is a son Eugene DeCastro of Jamestown; three granddaughters Brenda (John) Barton of Gerry, April (Ralph) Wallace of Jamestown and Christine (James) Wright of O'Fallon, MO; seven great grandchildren Johnny, Ali and Molly Barton, Ralph Wallace III and Lillian Wallace and Brian and Bradley Wright and her special pet cat Lillavan. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Joseph DeCastro, whom she married January 27, 1944 and who died August 13, 1999. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Lind Funeral Home. Rev James Witherington will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received from noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday prior to the service in the funeral home.
