Obituary of Althea M. Vik
Althea M. Vik, 88, of 233 Camp Street, went to be with the Lord Wednesday May 7, 2014, at home with her family.
She was born March 12, 1926, in Butler, New Jersey, a daughter of the late Orrie and Rose Schultz Hoover.
She was a graduate of Jamestown High School and was a lifelong resident of Jamestown.
She had worked at Marlin Rockwell Corporation during World War II and after her children were grown she had a cleaning service in local law firms.
She was a member of the Pentecostal church her entire life and a member of the Zion Tabernacle for many years. She enjoyed gardening, crafts, and was an avid collector of snowmen.
She is survived by her daughter: Marilyn (Michael) Town of Ellington; a son, Kevin (Darla) Vik of Bemus Point; six grandchildren: David (Lynette) Johnson II, Brandy Lindblade (Gregory Messere), and Kevin D (Lucy)., Ryan (Anna), Andrew, and Cole Vik; four great grandchildren: Ashley Johnson, Shawn and Michael Lindblade, and Morgan Vik; and several nieces and nephews; also her dog, Abbey, which she referred to as "precious little thing".
She was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband, Roy Vik, whom she married on December 11, 1946 and passed away October 31, 2007; a daughter: Sharon Fleming on June 24, 2013; a sister: Margaret Hoover Drake on May 25, 2005; and a brother Orrie Hoover Jr. on March 1, 2010.
The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Monday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Robert E. Reeves, pastor of the Zion Tabernacle, will officiate. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.
