Obituary of Janet J. Gilson
Janet J. Gilson, 88, a longtime resident of Jamestown, NY and Silver Bay, Ontario, passed away at 11:25 p.m. Sunday, June 1, 2014, in W.C.A. Hospital.
She was born August 28, 1925 in Buffalo, NY, a daughter of the late S. Ellis and Edith Nesper Jones.
Janet was a devoted wife to her late husband John, who passed away March 24, 2013, a mother to Cindy Siegel, Susan Gilson and John Gilson, and their spouses Richard, Daniel and Florence, and a grandmother to Katharine (Joshua), Elizabeth, Gilson, Benjamin, Patrick and Michael. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
A 1947 graduate of Oberlin College, Janet taught in the Jamestown Public School System, at Jamestown High School, for more than 20 years and the city streets and safer due to the many drivers trained under Janet's tutelage.
She was an active member of the First Lutheran Church, was a former President of the Marvin Community House Board, an active member of the Chautauqua County and Western New York Retired Teachers Association and a member of the Ingjald Lodge 65 Independent Order of the Vikings. Janet has left her special mark on many of the areas people, institutions and organizations.
She is also survived by a sister Suzanne Kates of Tonawanda, NY.
The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday in the First Lutheran Church. The Rev. Daniel Nagle, pastor will officiate. Burial will be in the Lake View Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 4-7 p.m. Thursday in the Lind Funeral Home.
