Obituary of Elizabeth A. LaVoy

Elizabeth A. "Betty" LaVoy, 72, loving mother, grandmother, and sister, passed away peacefully Thursday June 12, 2014 in her home at 201 Van Buren Street surrounded by her family. She was born September 29, 1941 in Albany, NY the daughter of the late Anthony and Elizabeth Kadicik Smith. Prior to retirement, Betty worked at Acu-Rite and previously at Truck Lite and Bausch and Lomb. She spent many hours volunteering at Meals on Wheels, Saint Susan's Center, and the Chautauqua County Humane Society and was an avid gardener. Betty loved her family dearly and also her pets. Surviving are two daughters, Deborah (Steven) Monroe of Jamestown; Barbara (Brian) Miller of Wampum, PA; a son, Michael LaVoy of Cherry Creek, NY; six grandchildren, Christina Jackson, Hannah Monroe Ramirez, Travis Monroe, Anthony Miller, Samantha Berkenpas, Natalie Monroe; four great grandchildren, her buddy Owen Ramirez, Dylan Monroe, Essence Foust, Xavier Foust; a great great grandson, Kamryn Monroe; her brothers and sisters, Donna (Don) Gruol of Del Mar, CA; Arthur (Carol) Smith of Batavia, NY; Susan (Jim) Slusarski of Fairport, NY; Peter Smith of Cherry Creek, NY; and Kathleen Smith of Taos, New Mexico. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her longtime companion, Leonard Nelson. The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday in the Lind Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday and for one hour prior to the service Sunday in the funeral home.
