Obituary of Burdette R. Young
Burdette R. "Bud" Young, 93, of 90 Lovall Avenue, died Thursday June 12, 2014, in WCA Hospital.
A Jamestown resident all of his life, he was born May 28, 1921, a son of the late J. Gerhard and Esther Jones Young.
He was a 1939 graduate of Jamestown High School and a 1949 graduate of University at Buffalo.
He was a WWII veteran of the US Army Air Corps serving from 1942-45 in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater.
Prior to his retirement he was employed by Seidman & Seidman as an accountant.
A lifelong member of Bethel Lutheran Church, he served in many capacities including choir member for 67 years, church council, chairman of the property committee, treasurer, Sunday school teacher and chairman of the building committee for the Sunday school wing.
He will be remembered as a true servant who was a member of the Rotary Club for 25 years, volunteered at St. Susan Center and Jones Hill. He was a recipient of the Paul Harris Fellow Award in recognition of his hard work in the community.
Surviving are his wife the former Ruth Ann Granquist, whom he married June 21, 1952; two sons Thomas (Debbie) Young of Fairport, NY and William (Nancy) Young of Clay, NY and three grandchildren Joshua, Amanda and Kristen Young.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a twin brother Dorwin Young, brother Paul Young and two sisters Lucille Spetz and Sylvia Wistran.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Bethel Lutheran Church, Rev. Alan Anderson will officiate.
Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.
