Obituary of Michael P. Churchill
Michael Paul Churchill, 85, of 220 Southwestern Drive went to be with our Lord at 3:25 a.m. Saturday, June 21, 2014 in Heritage Green Rehab & Skilled Nursing.
He was born October 12, 1928 in Newark, NJ, the son of the late Michael Sean and Anna Jacobs Churchill. A 1948 graduate of Frewsburg Central School, he resided most of his life in the Jamestown area.
Michael served as a machine gunner on the front lines during the Korean War as a Sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps. During this time he was injured in combat and eventually returned to the war. He was a lifetime member of the VFW and the Henry Mosher American Legion Post in Falconer.
Michael was employed as a butcher and in sales by Swift & Co. for 28 years in Jamestown and in Buffalo. He was also a bus driver for the Falconer Central School District for 22 years, was the owner of the former Friendly Bar in downtown Jamestown in the 1960's and 70's, and had been involved in numerous real estate ventures throughout the Jamestown area.
Michael is survived by his wife of 61 years, Jeannine Lewis Churchill, whom he married June 21, 1953 in St. John Catholic Church; a son, Michael (Shelly) Churchill of Jamestown; a daughter, Sandy Churchill and her life partner, Leslie Wallen of Jamestown; three grandsons: Christopher Churchill of Jamestown, Jason (Kristen) Churchill of Maryland and Andrew (Alicia) Churchill of North Carolina; three great-grandchildren and expecting a fourth; and a sister, Helen (Basil) Bunce of Kennedy.
He was preceded in death by five sisters and two brothers.
The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday in the Lind Funeral Home. Deacon Samuel Pellerito of Holy Apostles Parish will officiate. Burial will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
Friends may call for one prior to the service in the funeral home Tuesday.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Hospice Chautauqua County, 20 W. Fairmount Ave., Lakewood, NY 14750.
