Obituary of Willard W. Smith

Willard W. Smith, 88, of 2262 N. Maple Ave. Ashville, NY passed away at 2:50 p.m. Friday, June 20, 2014, in the Corry Memorial Hospital, Corry, PA. A lifelong area resident, he was born June 6, 1926 in the Town of Harmony a son of the late Loren B. and Rena C. Whitford Smith. Before his retirement in 1991, he was a farmer working on the Ben Eddy Farm in Bear Lake, PA for over 25 years. In previous years he had worked for the former Art Metal, Inc. and the Weber-Knapp Company. He will be remembered as one who loved to spend time in his garden and was an excellent handyman. He loved flowers, especially dahlia's and glads. Surviving is a brother Leon Smith of Jamestown and his companion of 19 years, Phyllis Rein with whom he made his home. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by 5 sisters, Pearl Snow, Mary Smith, Isabelle Howard, Ruth Gleason, Lillian Gustafson and six brothers, Lawrence, George, Loren, Jr., Earl, Arthur and Robert Smith. The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 27, 2014, in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Violet Davidson, retired pastor of the Ashville United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Panama Union Cemetery. Friends will be received for one hour prior to the service on Friday in the funeral home.
