Obituary of Rexford M. Smith

Rexford M. Smith, 80, formerly of 9 Hazel Avenue, died Tuesday June 24, 2014, in the Lutheran Home and Rehabilitation Center. He was born July 17, 1933, in Jamestown, a son of the late Robert and Mabel Johnson Smith. He graduated from Jamestown High School in 1951 and Jamestown Community College in 1957. A veteran of the US Army he served from 1953-55. Prior to his retirement due to illness, he was employed by Rochester Midland Chemical Company as a salesman and earlier had worked for Frontier Linen Supply Company. He was a member of Zion Covenant Church where he served as an usher and trustee. His other memberships include the YMCA and Lakewood Rod and Gun Club. Surviving are his wife Irene Dahlin Smith, whom he married October 10, 1953; a daughter Lynn and husband Jeffrey Blasdell of Jamestown; two grandsons Mark and wife Kristy Blasdell of Warren, PA and Andrew Blasdell and Lisa Kennedy of Jamestown; a brother Richard and wife Diane Smith of Staunton, VA and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers Harry, Edward and Robert Smith and two sisters Blanche Anderson and Bette Dudkowski. The funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the Lind Funeral Home. Rev. Steve Kilburn, associate pastor of Zion Covenant Church and Rev. Daniel Rumfelt, chaplain of Lutheran, will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received from 3-6 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.
