Obituary of Phyllis L. Johnson
Phyllis L. Johnson, 87, formerly of 12 Snell Place, passed away at 9:02 a.m. Wednesday, July 2, 2014, in the Lutheran Home and Rehabilitation Center.
A lifelong area resident, she was born July 27, 1926 in Jamestown, NY, a daughter of the late LaVerne Frederick and Mildred Roslyn Drotz Grant.
She was a 1944 graduate of Jamestown High School and was very active in her class reunions.
Before her retirement in 1989, she was employed as a bookkeeper for the Marlin Rockwell Corporation Federal Credit Union for 17 years. In her earlier years she had also worked for Hopes Windows, Jamestown Mutual Insurance and the Geer Dunn Company.
She attended the Camp St. United Methodist for many years. Phyllis was a charter member, Secretary and Past President of the of the Jamestown Eagles Lodge # 2145 Auxiliary and also a member of the Thule Lodge # 127 VASA Order of American, the Ingjald Lodge # 65 Independent Order of the Vikings, the Lakewood Rod & Gun Club, the Herman Kent Post # 777 American Legion Auxiliary, the Chautauqua County Humane Society, and the Red Hat Society.
She will be remembered as a loving and caring mother, grandmother, sister and aunt who truly loved her family and was very proud of all their accomplishments. She also cherished the time she spent with her friends.
Surviving are her son, Timothy S. (Brita) Johnson of Jamestown, two grandsons, Scott M. (Crystal) Johnson of Easley, SC, Joel P. (Summer) Johnson of Greenville, SC, two great granddaughters, McKenna and Abigayle Johnson, a sister, Patricia (Lloyd) Kessler of Simpsonville, SC, a niece, Laurie (Scott) Roberson of Simpsonville, SC, a nephew, James (Kellie) Kessler of Irmo, SC and her daughter in law Jane (George) Bryant of Greenwood, SC.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Norman E. Johnson whom she married March 19, 1945 and who died May 5, 1997 and her son LaVerne L. Johnson who died June 29, 2005.
The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 8, 2014, in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Mark Parsons, pastor of the Mayville United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Pine Hill Cemetery, Falconer, NY.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Monday, July 7, 2014, in the funeral home.
