Obituary of Richard J. Bland
Richard J. Bland, Sr. 86, of 2864 East Ave. Greenhurst, NY, passed away at 11:10 a.m. Sunday, July 6, 2014, in the Heritage Green Rehab and Skilled Nursing Facility.
A lifelong area resident, he was born March 25, 1928 in Jamestown, NY a son of the late Roy James and Jennie Foster Bland.
He was a 1946 graduate of Jamestown High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving from September 24, 1946 to February 12, 1948 in Japan following World War II.
Before his retirement he was employed by Sprinchorn, Incorporated from 1952 to 1988. In earlier years he had worked for the former Watson Manufacturing Company.
Richard was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church, the Herman Kent Post # 777 American Legion, War Vets Recreation Club, the Ingjald Lodge # 65 Independent Order of the Vikings, Lakewood Rod & Gun Club, and the former AMVETS Post. He was also a Youth Baseball coach for several years while his son's were growing up.
He will be remembered as a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather who loved attending his grandchildren's sporting events and playing golf, especially as he spent the winter months in Florida.
Surviving are his wife the former Marion Carlson whom he married May 3, 1952 in the Immanuel Lutheran Church, two sons, Richard J. (Holley) Bland, Jr., Randall J. Bland both of Bemus Point, NY, four grandchildren, Ross J. (Nissa) Bland of Greenhurst, Adrienne M. (Mike) Candiotti of Cortland, OH, Ramsey J. (Elise) Bland of Jamestown, Reid J. Bland of Silver Creek, NY, a great grandson Rowan Bland and a sister Dorothy B. Anderson of Pittsburgh, PA.
A memorial service will be held at a date and time to be announced by the Lind Funeral Home.
