Obituary of M. Janice Tyler
M. Janice Tyler, 93, of 68 Magnolia Ave., W.E., formerly of 2 S. Lakeside Drive, Bemus Point, passed away at 11:45 p.m. Thursday, July 17, 2014 in WCA Hospital.
A lifelong area resident, she was born March 20, 1921 in Jamestown, a daughter of the late Dr. Francis J. and Bessie Mae Caughell McCulla.
Janice was a 1939 graduate of Jamestown High School and in 1942, the Edward J. Meyer Memorial Hospital School of Nursing.
She was veteran of the US Army, serving from 1944 until her discharge as a First Lieutenant in 1946.
Janice was employed as Registered Nurse by WCA Hospital for 47 years, retiring as a nursing supervisor in 1982.
She was a communicant of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lakewood and belonged to the Herman Kent Post 777 American Legion. She enjoyed bowling, golf and reading and had volunteered at the American Red Cross helping with disaster relief.
Surviving are seven sons: Samuel T. Tyler, Jr. of Brick, NJ, John F. Tyler of Tryon, NC, Michael W. (Alice) Tyler of Leland, NC, Patrick A. (Mary) Tyler of Jamestown, Daniel J. (Ellen) Tyler of Bemus Point, Robert 'MC' (Edith) Tyler of Estero, FL, and Thomas E. (Mary Pat) Tyler of Derby, NY; a daughter, Kathleen P. (Douglas) Barmore of Gerry, NY; 23 grandchildren: Capt. Sean Tyler, Ryan Tyler, Shannon Tyler, Michaela Koch, Meagan Tyler, Diana Lette, Justin Sabo, Jeannine Dougherty, Josh (Beth) Tyler, Mallary Tyler, Daniel (Amanda) Tyler, Jr., Erin Tyler, Timothy (Cari) Tyler, Matthew Tyler, Robert (Jessica) Tyler, Christopher (Emily) Tyler, Brian Tyler, Nicholas Tyler, Lorinda Quinn, Bradley Ring, Dereck Ring, Jeremy Barmore and Douglas Barmore, Jr.; as well as 22 great-grandchildren.
Janice was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel T. Tyler, Sr. whom she married April 30, 1946 and who died January 18, 2014; a granddaughter, Michelle Bloom; and two sisters, Kathleen McCulla and Frances Katzenberger.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Lakewood. The Rev. Piotr Zaczynski, the Rev. Raymond A.J. Donohue and Deacon Daniel J. Tyler will be celebrants. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, where full military honors will be conducted by the Herman Kent Post 777 American Legion.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday in the Lind Funeral Home, where a Rosary Service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m.
