Obituary of Robert J. Harle

Robert J. Harle, 92, of Diffley Road Ashville, died Saturday July 19, 2014 in WCA Hospital. He was born April 29, 1922 in Jamestown the son of the late Robert E. and Blanche Langworthy Harle. Prior to his retirement, he was employed at Ring & Pierce-All Division of Producto Machine from October 20, 1962 to May 1987. A proud World War II veteran, he was the recipient of the Bronze Star, Croix de Guerre, Grand Cross of Homage of the Military Order of the Ardennes, Distinguished Unit Badge, Combat Infantry Badge, Good Conduct Medal, and New York State Conspicuous Service Cross. A veteran of the Battle of the Bulge- HQ, 502 Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division he "participated, endured and survived the greatest land battle ever fought and won by the United States Army". Prior to his enlistment in September 1940, he was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps. Robert served as Historian of Herman Kent Post 777 and received Honorable Mention in the American Legion Dept. of New York 2003 Annual Post Yearbook History Contest. He was a member of the 101st Airborne Division Association as well as a Life Member Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 524 Corning, NY and Branch Honorary Patron of Branch 272 of the Royal Canadian Legion. A talented artist in multiple mediums, Bob played bass guitar and was a former member of the Chautauqua County Society of Artists. Surviving are his wife of 71 years, Amy Brown Harle whom he married December 1, 1942 in Phenix City, AL; three children: Gregory (Janice) Harle, Bonnie (Ronald) Hammel, and Allen (Cynde) Harle; ten grandchildren: Crystal Todd and Greg Harle Jr.; Alison Smith and Amanda Wilson; Jennifer Curtin; Shannon Harle; Michael Harle; Michelle Neubauer; Amanda Overbeck; Tasha Royce; and 19 great grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, John "Jack" Harle. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday in the Lind Funeral Home where Full Military Honors will be conducted at 4 p.m. by members of the Herman Kent Post 777 American Legion.
