Obituary of Dorothy M. Ecklund

Dorothy M. Ecklund, 92, of Orchard Grove, Jamestown, formerly of 75 Benson St., passed away Friday, August 8, 2014 at Heritage Park Rehab & Skilled Nursing. A resident of Orchard Grove since last year, she had lived on Benson Street since the age of 5. She was the widow of Evert A. Ecklund, whom she married May 26, 1951 and who died July 26, 2008. Dorothy was born in Jamestown on February 9, 1922, the daughter of the late Arthur and Mabel Rahm Carlson. She was a 1941 graduate of Jamestown High School. She had been employed by the former Peerless Photo for 34 years, both as a bookkeeper and a sales associate, retiring in 1977. Dorothy enjoyed camping and was a member of the Lakewood Rod & Gun Club, VFW, Henry Mosher Post American Legion in Falconer, Thule Lodge and a life member of the Vikings. In earlier years, she also enjoyed attending model airplane events with her late husband. She is survived by a cousin, Phyllis Kron of West Ellicott; and her caretaker and long-time friend, James Paxton of Jamestown. The funeral will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Gerald A. Haglund will officiate. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery. Friends will be received from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday and for one hour prior to the service in the funeral home Wednesday.
