Obituary of Mary L. Smith
Mary L. Smith, 92, of 3930 Mead Road, passed away Sunday, August 17, 2014 in her home. She was the widow of Earl L. Smith, whom she married September 27, 1939 and who died November 25, 1985.
Mary was born August 7, 1922 in Jamestown, one of six children of the late John and Neva Blackmar Stormer.
In earlier years she was a partner in Nelson's Pie Kitchen of Lakewood and the H & H Super Market in Lakewood. She had also been employed by Hills Department Store and The Maternity Boutique in the Chautauqua Mall.
Mary loved her home, the woods and fields around it, and her two cats - she loved animals and wildlife. She was a loving mother and grandmother, always nurturing and sympathetic. She liked bus trips, bowling, taking long walks, picnics at Alleghany State Park, dancing, roller skating, and especially family get-togethers.
A member of Ashville United Methodist Church, she also belonged to the Herman Kent American Legion Post 777, Celoron Senior Citizens, Lakewood Rod & Gun Club, and was a life member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Illinois.
Surviving are a daughter, Carol Ann (Roy) Larson of Lakewood and a son, Ronald (Carolyn) Smith of Jamestown; four grandchildren: Judy (Mark) Casselman of Amherst, NY, Tammy (Rob) Blair of Cattaraugus, Tina (Jim) Sitterley of Clymer, and Tiffany (Chris) Johnson of Busti; and eight great-grandchildren: Shaun Earl (Michelle) Wahl, Stephanie Casselman, Felicia and Lucas Blair, Amanda Paddleford, Dustin Sitterley, and Alyssa and Justin Johnson; and five great- great-grandchildren. She is also survived by four brothers: John H. Stormer, Jr. of Ashville, Robert Stormer of Jamestown, Donald Stormer of Florida and Charles Stormer of Randolph; a sister, Shirley Boutelle of Busti; as well as several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Nicholas Perry will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.
