Obituary of James E. Bottomley
James E. Bottomley, 90, formerly of 26 Marlow Rd., Jamestown, died Saturday, August 16, 2014 at the Blossom View Nursing Home in Sodus, NY. He had resided in Sodus for the past seven years.
Jim was born January 29, 1924 in Jamestown, a son of the late James and Hilda Guest Bottomley. He served in the U.S. Army from 1944 to 1945 and was the recipient of a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star.
He graduated from Jamestown Business College and was employed as an accountant by the former AVM Corp. and American Manufacturing. Jim later became the business office manager for the former Manor Oak Skilled Nursing Facility in Jamestown. He retired at the age of 74 as administrator of Manor Oak.
He was very involved in Camp Li-Lo-Li, Youth for Christ and was a member of the Christian Businessmen's Association.
Surviving are a son, Mark Bottomley of Sodus, NY and a daughter, Deborah Brockman of Cincinnati, OH; two grandchildren, Todd Brockman of Dry Ridge, KY and Lindsay Cordell of Cincinnati; two step grandchildren, Chris Bacon of Rochester and Jennifer Quackenbush of Sodus Point, NY; five great-grandchildren and four step great-grandchildren; three sisters: Sara Kirchhoff of Lancaster, NY, Elizabeth Blose of Falconer, NY and Charlotte, NC, and Patricia Andrews of Milford, MA; and a brother, Dale Bottomley of Maplehurst, NY.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Allison Bottomley, whom he married June 25, 1949 and who died June 19, 2002.
The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday in the Lind Funeral Home. Elder Terry Wilson will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.
