Obituary of Marlene E. Carlson

Marlene E. Carlson, 80, of 184 Frederick Blvd. WE, passed away Wednesday August 27, 2014 in her home surrounded by her family. A lifelong area resident, she was born April 6, 1934 in Jamestown the daughter of Elmer E. and Lucy Shepard Wright. Marlene was a member of the Jamestown High School Class of 1952, and had worked at Quality Markets for 35 years. She was a member of the Eagles Club Auxiliary, and enjoyed playing cards and going to the casino. Marlene will be remembered as a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Surviving are her husband of 63 years, Victor W. Carlson Jr. whom she married February 24, 1951; a daughter, Sue A. Wilder (Jeff) of Jamestown; a son, Bradley E. Carlson (Donna) of Ellery Center, NY; four grandchildren, Chan B. Carlson (Christina) of Cleveland, OH; Ryan J. Carlson (Christine) of Mayville, NY; Jeffrey Volk of Washington State; Jennifer Volk of Ellery Center, NY; two great grandsons, Benjamin and Zachary Carlson of Mayville; a sister in law, Eleanor Frick; niece, Karen Frick, both of Falconer; cousin James Rolph and family of Webster, NY; and many relatives and friends in the Jamestown and surrounding area including Doris and Lou Landy who were longtime friends. She was preceded in death by her father who died June 14, 1973; her mother who died October 24, 1999; and a grandson, Bradley S. Carlson who died May 6, 1979. The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Timothy Phelps, Hospice chaplain will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Hospice Chautauqua County, 20 West Fairmount Ave., Lakewood, NY 14750.
