Obituary of Alan Sam Keefe
Alan Sam Keefe, 77, of 1517 W. Third St., passed away Wednesday, August 27, 2014 at Heritage Green Rehab & Skilled Nursing.
He was born October 6, 1936 in Jamestown, a son of the late David and Ruth Lawson Keefe. Sam was a 1954 graduate of Falconer High School and served in the Army National Guard from 1955 to 1962.
In earlier years, he was employed in the hardware department of Sears during which time he met his future wife, Barbara. Sam then worked in the advertising department of The Post Journal for a number of years, and retired in 1998 from Valeo, Inc.
He is survived by his wife, the former Barbara L. Burmeister, whom he married October 18, 1958 in First Lutheran Church by the Rev. Dr. Paul A Westerberg. They have renewed their vows in the church on their 25th, 40th and 50th anniversaries. As a 55 year member of First Lutheran, Sam has sung in the choir and served as an usher and on the property committee.
Also surviving is a son, Daniel A. (Helen) Keefe and a daughter, Diane L. Russo, both of Jamestown; and three grandchildren, Dylan, Kelly and Brandon Keefe of Jamestown.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Robert and Lawrence Keefe; and his parents-in-law, Vernon and Lucile Burmeister.
Sam will be remembered as a dedicated and loving husband who cared deeply for his children and grandchildren. He was always kind to everyone.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 6th in Memorial Chapel of First Lutheran Church. The Rev. Daniel K. Nagle will officiate.
Friends will be received in the Church Parlor following the service.
