Obituary of James M. Walrod

James M. Walrod, 62, of 3825 Creek Way, Chester, VA, formerly of Panama, NY, died Saturday September 6, 2014, in Chippenham Medical Center, Richmond, VA. He was born March 19, 1952, in Jamestown, a son of the late Milan and Beverly Larson Walrod. A 20 year veteran of the US Army, he served from 1971-91 achieving the rank of 1st Sergeant. Following retirement from the military he was employed by First Lutheran Church as sexton for 22 years. He was a member of First Lutheran Church and Herman Kent Post #777 American Legion. He proudly served as Memorial Day Parade Marshall in Panama and Blockville for many years. Surviving are his wife Katherine Shaw Walrod; son David P. (Emily) Walrod of Fredericksburg, VA; a granddaughter Gwendolyn Walrod of Fredericksburg; three sisters Marilyn (Wayne) Seeley of Indian Trail, NC, Ann (Tom) Hesson of Lakewood and Karen (Jerry) Bush of West Ellicott; two brothers John Walrod of Columbus, PA and David C. Walrod of Falconer and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in First Lutheran Church. Rev. Daniel K. Nagle will officiate. Burial will be in Myrtle Cemetery, Clarks Corners. Friends will be received from 4-7 p.m. Thursday in the Lind Funeral Home.
