Obituary of Verna E. Curtis
Verna E. Curtis, 96, formerly of 45 Delaware Ave. Jamestown, Covenant Manor, and the Frewsburg Rest Home, died Sunday September 21, 2014 in the Heritage Park Rehab and Skilled Nursing Facility.
She was born July 11, 1918 in Jamestown the daughter of the late Charles and Edith Gardner Jackson.
Verna was a 1937 graduate of Jamestown High School and a 1940 graduate of Central Bible Institute in Springfield, MO. She had worked in several area grape vineyards and also for RL Polk as an enumerator for the city directory. Verna was a second cousin to Robert H. Jackson. She was a longtime member of Calvary Assembly of God Church (New Creation Assembly of God). Verna was a familiar face as she was often seen walking to various destinations around Jamestown including the Boys and Girls Club where she enjoyed swimming. She also enjoyed collecting items associated with the grape growing industry.
Surviving are a son, Stanley (Mary Lou) Curtis of Panama; a daughter, Edith Warnshuis of Sherman; six grandchildren, Julie (Dennis) Davidson of Jamestown; Jeffrey (Pamela) Curtis of Panama; James (Dina) Curtis of Tampa, FL; Kenneth (Brenda) Warnshuis of Clearfield, UT; Cory (Anjella) Warnshuis of Orlando, FL; Craig (Stephanie) Warnshuis of Erie, PA; ten great grandchildren, Bethany Warnshuis, Courtney Warnshuis, Colin Warnshuis, James Curtis Jr., Tyler Curtis, Grace Curtis, Luke Curtis, Joshua Curtis, Erin Johnson, and Kelly Davidson; five great great grandchildren, Jason and Jack Johnson, Benjamin, Bryce, and Barrett Guillen.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Willard Curtis whom she married May 20, 1940 in Springfield, MO and who died March 27, 1986; and her son in law, Paul Warnshuis.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the New Creation Assembly of God Church.
The Rev. William Blair, pastor, will officiate.
A private committal service will be held in Sunset Hill Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday in the Lind Funeral Home.
