Obituary of Rodney R. Crandall
Rodney R. Crandall, Sr., 79, of 2433 Beech St. Jamestown passed away at 7:40 a.m. Friday, September 26, 2014, in his home.
A lifelong area resident, he was born December 24, 1934 in Kennedy, NY a son of the late Howard D. and Katherine Penfield Crandall.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving from February 5, 1952 to December 16, 1955, on the USS Corry, during the Korean War.
Before his retirement he was employed by Dahlstrom-Roll Form for many years and following his retirement was still working on a part time basis.
Rod was a member of the Herman Kent Post #777 American Legion, Celoron and the Jamestown Moose Lodge # 1681. He was also very active in the USS Corry reunion group and the Tin Can Sailors.
Surviving are his wife Birdie M. Hemmis Crandall whom he married June 5, 1976, three sons, Thomas (Pam Martin) Crandall of Jamestown, Rodney "Dutch" Crandall, Jr. of Maryville, TN, Gregg (Ann) Crandall of Falconer, three step-sons, Larry (Brenda) Blose, Richard (Debbie) Blose both of Jamestown, Terrance (Beth) Blose of Churchville, TN, nine grandchildren, Katie (Douglas) Kelley of Falconer, Jarrod (Stephanie)Crandall of Jamestown, Michelle (Eric) Crandall of Panama, Leann Stanford of Knoxville, TN, Ryan McDonald of Pigeon Forge, TN, Nichole Carroll of Maryville, TN, Rodney Crandall, III of Boise, ID, Randi Lynn Crandall of Buffalo, Matthew Crandall of Lafayette, LA, eight step-grandchildren, Jason (Brenda) Blose, Melissa Chase, Richard Blose all of Ashville, Stacy (Ed) Winans of Jamestown, Tara (Bill) Seekings of Houston, TX, Ashley (James) Stewart of IA, Brian (Jennifer) Blose of Sugar Grove, PA, Terrance (Rita) Blose, Jr. of Johnson City, TN, several other step-grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, a sister, Carol (Rex) Everett of Falconer, his mother in law, Mary Hemmis of Lake Wales, FL. He was also loved by many of his nieces and nephews, sister and brother in laws.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers, Dr. Clarence Crandall, Merwin Crandall, Vernon Crandall and his father in law James Hemmis, who was a mentor to all.
The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Daniel Keefe, pastor of the Jamestown Community Chapel will officiate. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery, Kennedy, NY.
Friends will be received from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home where a Moose Lodge Memorial Service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Sunday.
