Obituary of John W. Roos

John W. Roos, 71, of Lakewood, NY, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, October 15, 2014 at UPMC Hamot in Erie. He was born February 3, 1943 in Jamestown, the son of the late Sven and Delores Landquist Roos. John received his Bachelor's Degree from R.I.T. in 1965 and was the owner and president of Reliance Mold & Die Corp., retiring in 1999. He belonged to the Norden Club, had served on the Kiantone Town Board and was a former member of the Chautauqua Lake Power Boat Club. John was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church where he served as an usher. An avid boater and fisherman, he also enjoyed woodworking. John was a devoted husband, father, step-father and grandfather who additionally took great joy in his golden retrievers over the years. He is survived by his wife, Jane Roth Roos, whom he married April 16, 1988; a daughter, Heather (Kent) Yarborough of Wilmington, NC and a son, Shayne (Elizabeth) Roos of Pittsburgh, PA; three step-children: Jennifer (Stephen) Simpson of Hilton, NY, Erin (Eric) Arbogast of Portland, OR and Matthew (Maria) Donovan of Ithaca, NY; six grandchildren: Keely Yarborough, Owen Yarborough, Cameron Roos, Kaitlin Tyrrell, Linnea Tyrrell and Amanda Simpson; as well as two sisters, Diane (Jack) Bailey of Chautauqua and Sharon (Robert) Gunnell of Lakewood. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in St. Luke's Episcopal Church. The Rev. Luke F. Fodor, rector, will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday in the Lind Funeral Home.
