Obituary of Joan L. Stanton

Joan L. Stanton, 84, of 1690 Southwestern Drive, Lakewood, passed away Saturday, October 18, 2014 in WCA Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was born January 18, 1930 in Jamestown, the daughter of the late Floyd and Alyce Shoesmith Keifer and graduated from Jamestown High School in 1948. In earlier years, Joan had been employed by the John Hancock Mutual Insurance Co. and The Copy Shop of Lakewood. She was a member of the Sweet Adelines. Joan is survived by her husband, Ray M. Stanton, whom she married January 11, 1961; two daughters, Shari (Gary) Rowe of Jamestown and Marcia (James) Frangione of Lakewood; two sons, Robert Gauggel and Gary (Jody) Gauggel, both of Jamestown; two stepsons, Jerry (Julie) Stanton of Jamestown and Thomas Stanton of Maple Springs; and 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Jack E. Keifer in 2008; and a grandfather, Alfred Shoesmith, a volunteer fireman who died in the Gokey Building Fire of 1910. A private family service will be held in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Jon Swart, Parish Associate of First United Methodist Church of Warren, will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery. Visitation will not be observed. Memorials may be made to Hospice Chautauqua County, 20 W. Fairmount Ave., Lakewood, NY 14750.
