Obituary of Dolores L. Doerfer

Mrs. Dolores Doerfer (nee Affeldt), 89, died peacefully October 23, 2014, at Heritage Park Rehab and Skilled Nursing. Mrs. Doerfer was born on April 18, 1925, in Milwaukee WI the daughter of Otto and Elizabeth "Elsie" Finkler Affeldt. She graduated from Northern State College of Iowa with a degree in Business Administration. Coming to Jamestown in 1975, she served as Executive Director of the YWCA, remaining in that position for 2 years. From 1977- 1998 she worked for the Chautauqua County Private Industry Council, retiring as Marketing Supervisor. Mrs. Doerfer was known as a compassionate and hardworking advocate for her clients who delighted in their success. She developed strong ties to many local businesses and was respected by both employers and clients. An active member of St. James Parish, Mrs. Doerfer served as Parish Council president, Eucharistic Minister, and was a member of the charismatic prayer group. Mrs. Doerfer was a woman of deep faith who delighted in quiet prayer, scripture reading, and Christian music and was known for her kindness to friends and strangers. Mrs. Doerfer lived her life dedicated to her family, friends, and faith, all with an abundant helping of music. Almost any gathering was cause for a sing-along, and Mrs. Doerfer encouraged all of her children to sing - often in harmony. Throughout her long and full life, those harmonies always brought a smile to her face. Surviving are seven children: Dianne (Robert) Wears of Orange Park, FL, Daniel (Donna) Doerfer of Middle River MD, Debra (David Magid) Doerfer of Worcester MA, Damian (Michele) Doerfer of Baxter Springs, KS, David Doerfer of Clinton, TN, Deidre (Jeffery) Terry of Okinawa, Japan, and Dina (Joy Johnson) Doerfer of Erie PA, 15 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 29 years, Richard Doerfer, whom she married October 14, 1950 and who died December 6, 1979 and her brothers, Chester, Harold, and Otto Affeldt. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. James Catholic Church. Rev. John Kuhlmann will be celebrant. Burial will be in Arlington Park Cemetery, Milwaukee, WI. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday in the Lind Funeral Home, where a Christian Wake Service will be led at 3:45 p.m. Monday.
