Obituary of Marilyn K. Alexander

Marilyn K. Alexander, 71, of Ashville, and Palmetto, FL, died Wednesday November 5, 2014 in Manatee Memorial Hospital, Bradenton, FL after a brief illness. She was born September 24, 1943 in Warren, PA the daughter of the late Carl R. Hagg and Letha Olson Hagg Brawdy. Prior to retirement due to disability, Marilyn worked as a teller at Chase Manhattan Bank for many years. She was a member of the Ashville Fire Department Auxiliary, the Red Hat Society, and the Lakewood Rod and Gun Club Auxiliary. Marilyn was a devoted caregiver to her family. She was a tireless volunteer for the organizations she belonged to despite the crippling rheumatoid arthritis that increasingly limited her dexterity and mobility. She also prized the close friendships she made in her adopted winter home in Jet Mobile Park, Palmetto, Florida where she could always be found lending a helping hand during group endeavors, or to anyone who needed assistance. Inevitably the life of the party, it was a sure bet that if there was a card game to be played she would be a part of it. Surviving are two sons, Robert (Julie) Pickett Jr. of Jamestown; James (Kristin) Alexander of Lakewood; a daughter, Amy Stroebel of Mayville; seven grandchildren: George W. Stroebel, Marah Stroebel, Lexi Stroebel, Steven Pickett, Alexander Pickett, Grace Alexander, Nathan Alexander; a great grandson, Ethan; a brother, Dennis L. Hagg, and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar L. "Roy" Alexander whom she married April 12, 1969 and who died September 17, 2004; her step father, George Brawdy Jr.; two brothers, Craig M. Brawdy, and Richard I. Hagg. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Timothy J. Hoyer, pastor of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church will officiate. Burial will be in Busti Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Ashville Fire Auxiliary, PO Box 122 Ashville, NY 14710.
