Obituary of Gordon S. Dominey
Gordon S. Dominey, 92, formerly of Morley Road Ashville, died Tuesday November 11, 2014 in the Heritage Village Rehab and Skilled Nursing Facility.
He was born June 21, 1922 in Falconer, NY the son of the late Bedford and Blanche Arnold Dominey.
From October 1942 until January 1946, Gordon served in the US Navy. He received his training at Great Lakes and served in the Atlantic and Pacific Campaigns as an Aviation Machine Mate on board the USS Santee and USS San Jacinto. Justifiably proud of his service, he enjoyed reminiscing with fellow veterans.
In 1951, he graduated from Hillsdale College in Hillsdale, MI where he was a member of the track team. He began teaching in Sparta, MI for two years, Panama, NY and at Southwestern Central High School, where he coached football and basketball, retiring in 1979 after 30 years of teaching Social Studies. Gordon was a member of the Ashville United Methodist Church, serving as Trustee; and the Gerry United Methodist Church. He was a former member of the Retired Teachers Association and the Chautauqua County Football Officiating Association. For 14 years, he served as a councilman for the Town of North Harmony. Gordon enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, and playing golf on the AARP golf league.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Carol Davenport Dominey; his son, Roger W. Dominey, several grandchildren, great grandchildren, a niece, and several nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Roger E. Dominey; two brothers, Herbert and Harland Dominey; two sisters, Loretta Pangborn and Pamela Riggle; and a nephew, Francis Pangborn.
A remembrance service will be held later at a time to be announced. Visitation will not be observed.
