Obituary of Cathy J. Bernard

Cathy J. Herritt Bernard, 57, of 37 Pershing Ave., passed away at 7:40 a.m. Wednesday, November 12, 2014, in W.C.A. Hospital. A lifelong area resident, she was born October 3, 1957 in Jamestown, NY, a daughter of the late Leonard James "Jim" Herritt and LaVerne Elston Herritt. She was a 1975 graduate of Jamestown High School and attended Jamestown Business College. For many years she was employed in the circulation department of the Post Journal and in previous years had worked for the Southwestern Central School System, Chase Manhattan Bank and the former S.M. Flickinger Company. She will be remembered as a loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother who loved spending time with her family and enjoyed doing crafts, sewing and knitting. She also loved keeping in touch with family and friends on Facebook. Surviving are her mother, LaVerne Herritt of Jamestown, her husband, Malcolm J. Bernard whom she married June 27, 1981, her three children, Jennifer N. Bernard, Jonathon J. Bernard, Justin A. Bernard, two grandchildren, Mikaela J. Groves, Ella G. Bernard all of Jamestown and a sister, Ida Swift of Jamestown. She was preceded in death by her father L. James "Jim" Herritt who died October 1, 2012. The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Timothy Phelps, Chaplain of Hospice Chautauqua County will officiate. Burial will be in the Sunset Hill Cemetery.
