Obituary of Grace C. Munafo
Grace C. Munafo, 96, formerly of 210 Thayer St. Jamestown, passed away at 6:38 a.m. Wednesday, November 12, 2014, in the Brothers of Mercy Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Clarence, NY.
A Jamestown resident for most of her life she was born September 28, 1918 in Jamestown, NY a daughter of the late James and Jennie Grilla Letta.
Grace was a 1936 graduate of Jamestown High School and before her retirement was employed by the former Chautauqua Hardware Corporation from 1954 to 1970.
She was a longtime communicant of St. John Catholic Church, now Holy Apostles Parish, where she was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society. She also served as a Chautauqua County Voting Inspector for several years and enjoyed bowling in the AARP Bowling League.
Always an active person, Grace enjoyed knitting, sewing, gardening and baking for her family and friends.
Surviving are two daughters, Janice (Richard) Gangloff of Cheektowaga, NY, Frances (Paul) Kowalewski of Port St. Lucie, FL., four grandchildren, James (Nicole) Gangloff of Wheatfield, NY, Lisa (Eric) Gangloff Godwin of Elma, NY, Jay Kowalewski of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Michael Kowalewski of Atlanta, GA and three great grandchildren, Haley Gangloff, Chloe Gangloff and Elizabeth Godwin.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Carl J. Munafo whom she married April 19, 1947 and who died February 3, 2000, a brother Dominic Letta and three sisters, Frances Rickert, Jennie Alaimo, Josephine Sanbury.
The funeral will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday in the Lind Funeral Home. Deacon Samuel Pellerito of Holy Apostles Parish will officiate. Burial will be in the Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
Friends will be received for one hour prior to the service on Sunday in the funeral home.
