Obituary of Jean D. Gustavson

Jean D. Gustavson, 96, formerly of 325 Colfax St., the Frewsburg Rest Home, Tanglewood Manor and most recently the Lutheran Home, died at 10:15 a.m. Wednesday (November 26, 2014) in WCA Hospital. She was the widow of J. Einar Gustavson whom she married October 18, 1941 and who died July 11, 2007. Jean was born July 21, 1918 in Jamestown, a daughter of the late N. Harvey and Ethel Stebbins Dracup, and graduated from Jamestown High School in 1936. A homemaker for many years, she was later employed by the former Bigelow's Department Store, retiring in 1980. One of her great joys in life was baking for and entertaining family and friends. For more than 80 years, Jean was a member of First Baptist Church where she was a member and former chairwoman of the Board of Deaconesses, member of Circle 2 and the Board of Missions, and served as a Sunday school teacher. She was a member of the Ira Lou Spring Auxiliary, charter member of the Ivy Triangle Order of the Eastern Star and former member of the Mt. Sinai Order of the Eastern Star. Surviving is a daughter, Donna (Glen) Landers of Russell, PA; four grandchildren: Mindy (Jason Goodnight) Landers of Russell, Melissa (Jared) VanOrd of Russell, Josh (Patricia) Daigler of Buffalo and Mary (Ben) Soto of Jamestown; three great-grandchildren, Matthew Stover, Brodie VanOrd and Wylie VanOrd; and a step great-grandson, Ben "Duke" Soto. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Daigler in 1997; and a sister, Joyce Wilks and brother, Philip Dracup. The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Michael Childs will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 358 E. 5th St., Jamestown, NY 14701.
