Obituary of James R. Blanchard

James R. Blanchard, 65, of Great Valley, NY and Bemus Point, NY, passed away at 12:15 a.m. Thursday, December 18, 2014, at his residence in Bemus Point. A lifelong area resident, he was born July 24, 1949 in Jamestown, NY a son of the late Warren Campbell and Katrina Marie Carlson Blanchard. He was a 1967 graduate of Jamestown High School and attended Jamestown Community College and Buffalo State University. Before his retirement in 2005, Jim was a salesman for Sofco Paper Products in Buffalo, NY, which was formerly D.J. Mead Paper Company, for many years. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the Ellicottville Ski Club, and formerly a member of the Lakewood Rod & Gun Club and the Moon Brook Country Club. He loved spending time sailing on Chautauqua Lake in the summer and was an avid skier during the winter months. He also enjoyed working on wooden boats and loved playing a good round of golf. Surviving are his wife, Star Lynn Myregaard Blanchard who he married July 27, 1968; a son, Christopher J. Blanchard (Jen Blanchard) of Telluride, CO; a daughter, Kimberley D. Blanchard of Seattle, WA; and two brothers, Warren C. Blanchard, Jr. (Susan Blanchard) of San Antonio, TX; William A. Blanchard (Mary Ellen) of Rochester, NY. A private service will be held at the convenience of the family. Visitation will not be observed. Memorials may be made to the Chautauqua Lake Association, Inc. 429 East Terrace Ave. Lakewood, NY 14750 or to the Roger Tory Peterson Institute, 311 Curtis St. Jamestown, NY 14701.
