Obituary of Janet L. Kovel
Janet L. Kovel, 84, formerly of Williamsville, NY, passed away peacefully on Saturday December 20, 2014 in the Heritage Village Rehab and Skilled Nursing Facility.
She was born March 18, 1930 in Jamestown, NY the daughter of the late Harold A. Sandberg and Alexia (Lundgren) Sandberg.
Janet was a 1948 graduate of Jamestown High School and earned an associates degree from Jamestown Community College.
Prior to retirement, Janet was the primary SBLI training instructor for Goldome Bank before she implemented and trained the first SBLI sales team at Lockport Savings Bank (First Niagara). Janet continued as the primary SBLI instructor and life insurance coordinator for many years from the home office located in Lockport.
Janet was one of the key members responsible for the construction of Saint Timothy Lutheran Church in Bemus Point and continued as an active member of the North Presbyterian Church after moving from the Jamestown area to Williamsville NY.
Janet was devoted to her family and enjoyed traveling to spend time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Surviving are her five children, Kip (Marian) Kovel of Kennedy, NY; Mark (Geri) Kovel of Matthews, NC; Scott (Liz) Kovel of Buffalo, NY; Kevin (Lori) Kovel of Midland, NC; Jill (Dan) Chiacchia of Hamburg, NY; fourteen grandchildren; and eleven great grandchildren; and her sisters Joanne Anderson and Norma Anderson of Jamestown NY.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her former husband Andrew Kovel of North Tonawanda.
The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in Bethel Lutheran Church 904 West 3rd Street Jamestown, NY. The Rev. Alan W. Anderson, pastor, will officiate. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m Saturday in the church. Burial will be in Myrtle Cemetery, Clarks Corners.
