Obituary of Joseph W. Panebianco
Joseph W. Panebianco, 96, of Hultquist Place, died Friday December 19, 2014 in the Lutheran Home and Rehabilitation Center.
A lifelong Jamestown resident, he was born February 1, 1918, a son of Frank and Laura Cammarata Panebianco.
He was a 1937 graduate of Jamestown High School and later graduated from Jamestown Community College.
For 15 years he was employed by Crescent Tool and earlier had worked for his father as a window cleaner. He spent one year as a watchman at Blackstone.
Joe was a 7 year veteran of the US Navy serving from 1938-45. He was a Pearl Harbor survivor aboard the USS Trever. Much of the combat he experienced was in the South Pacific.
A communicant of St. James Catholic Church, he volunteered with his wife at the St. James Thrift Store for many years.
As a proponent of physical fitness Joe attributed his longevity to exercise and remaining active. He was a lifetime member of the YMCA and in his youth was involved with Camp Onyahsa as a tent leader, swim instructor and worked with the Leader Corps.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years Della Ann Chiazzese Panebianco, whom he married March 30, 1954; a daughter Laura (Dennis Kudzy) Lucas of Edina, MN; two sisters Nancy Rigoli and Cecilia Ceresa, both of California and a special friend Bill Lucas of Jamestown.
He was preceded in death by a son Frank Panebianco and two sisters Jenny Guilardo and Louise Sardi.
A private service will be held at the convenience of the family.
Inurnment will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
