Obituary of Barbara J. Johnson
Barbara J. Pavlock-Johnson, 73, of PO Box 503 Celoron, NY, formerly of Heritage Park Rehab and Skilled Nursing Facility, passed away Saturday January 17, 2015 in WCA Hospital following a lengthy illness.
She was born August 9, 1941 in Jamestown the daughter of the late Joseph L. and Mary B. Maslach Pavlock.
Barbara attended Ss Peter and Paul Catholic School and graduated from Jamestown High School in 1959.
She was employed as Manager of Hollywood Video, receiving many awards for her accomplishments there. Earlier, she worked for the Jamestown Post Journal, YMCA, and the Bagel Company. She was a communicant of Ss Peter and Paul Catholic Church where she was Baptized, received First Communion, and was Confirmed. Later, she was President of the Ss Peter and Paul Mothers Club, and volunteered at Bingo. On September 17, 1960, she married Charles M. "Charlie" Johnson at Ss Peter and Paul, celebrating 54 years of marriage until his passing on November 18, 2014. Barbara was currently a communicant of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lakewood. She pioneered research for double organ transplants at Cleveland Clinic. She enjoyed knitting, cooking, playing cards, visiting restaurants, and participating in the secret pal club. Barbara loved being with people and children, especially her nieces and nephews. She also loved animals, including her dog Smokey. Barbara will be remembered for her overall zest for life.
Surviving are two sons, Joseph (Beryl) Johnson of West Ellicott; Robert (Nicole) Johnson of Richmond, VA; two grandchildren, Cristopher (Libby) Johnson of Niagara Falls; Marc Peters of West Ellicott; her brother, Rev. Martin L. Pavlock of Jamestown; her aunt, Esther Crowell of Falconer; a sister in law Ruth James of Jamestown; special nieces Cheryl Warrior and Carol Sischo both of Jamestown; several additional nieces and nephews; special friends, Susie Joyce of Lakewood; Bev and Clare Crawford, Dee and Chuck Ellis, Kathy Burris, all of Celoron; Joan Wozniak of Erie, PA; and Ingrid Judson of Alaska.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Robert V. Pavlock; a sister, Nancy A. Pavlock; and a special aunt, Eva "Nana" Edborg.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 380 East Fairmount Ave Lakewood, NY. The Rev. Piotr Zaczynski, pastor will be celebrant.
Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 and 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the Lind Funeral Home where a Christian Wake Service will be led at 7:30 p.m.
